Project Launch: Surgeries for Children Affected by the War on Gaza

Funded by PalMed – Italy and implemented by Friends of the Patient Charitable Hospital – April 2025
With the collapse of the healthcare system in Gaza, most paediatric hospitals have ceased operations. In response, Friends of the Patient Charitable Association, under the guidance of the Palestinian Ministry of Health, has stepped in to serve as a dedicated children’s hospital—providing emergency care, intensive care, neonatal services, and inpatient treatment.
To expand its services and meet growing needs, the hospital has opened a specialised paediatric surgery clinic. Through partnerships with medical and humanitarian organizations, it is now performing life-changing operations for children affected by the war.
On March 20, 2025, the hospital signed an agreement with PalMed – Italy to launch a new surgical project aimed at supporting war-affected children. The initiative will provide 70 surgical procedures to improve children’s health and ease their suffering. The operations are being carried out by a skilled team of specialised doctors in the Hospital’s surgical facilities.
The project also includes pre- and post-operative care, hospital stays where needed, and ongoing medical follow-up. To support the emotional well-being of the children, the hospital is providing toys and small gifts, helping to bring moments of joy and comfort during recovery.
By addressing both the physical and psychological needs of the children—and relieving the financial burden on families—this initiative offers a vital source of hope and healing in the midst of crisis.
