Through the dedicated efforts of a group of Palestinian doctors residing in the Kingdom of Spain, the legal procedures for registering the Palestinian Doctors Association in Europe – Spain Branch (PalMed Spain) have been successfully completed and approved by the Spanish authorities.
To celebrate this milestone, the founding members held a large gathering attended by Palestinian doctors from various regions across Spain. Members of PalMed Europe’s Executive Board also joined the meeting, during which the institutional relationship between the main organisation and the new branch — based on cooperation, coordination, and complementarity — was outlined.
The meeting was conducted in a spirit of collegiality and commitment, with participants expressing their readiness to fulfil their professional responsibilities in serving the Palestinian medical community in Spain. The branch aims to bring together Palestinian healthcare professionals, harness their expertise and energy, and unite their efforts to support and advance the Palestinian healthcare sector.
On behalf of the PalMed Europe Board and all its members across the continent, we warmly congratulate our colleagues in Spain on the establishment of this new branch. We wish them every success in their mission to serve our people in Palestine and the diaspora.
The Ireland Chapter of the Palestinian Doctors Association in Europe (PalMed-Europe) was officially launched during the 34th International Conference of the National Arab-American Medical Association (NAAMA), held at Trinity College Dublin from June 3–5, 2025.
This milestone event was organised in collaboration with PalMed-Europe and the International Center for Health Equity at the University of Michigan, under the theme: “Together Towards Global Collaboration.”
The conference brought together a distinguished group of academics, medical professionals, and intellectuals from around the world. It was also honoured by the presence of several diplomatic representatives, including:

The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from Palestinian doctors across Ireland and Palestinian medical students currently enrolled in Irish universities.
During the symposium, Dr Mahmoud Abu Marzouk, Chair of the Founding Committee, formally announced the establishment of the Palestinian Doctors Association in Ireland. He was joined by several prominent medical figures, including:
Dr Riyad Masharqah – Chair of the Advisory Council of PalMed-Europe
Professor Mahmoud Loubani – Chair of PalMed Academy

Dr Raed Alnasser – President, NAAMA
Dr Nidal Moukaddam – Vice President, NAAMA

Professor Omar Lattouf – Chair of the Gaza Health Initiative
In his remarks, Dr Abu Marzouk underscored the importance of uniting the efforts of Palestinian doctors in Ireland to enhance professional collaboration, promote humanitarian engagement, and support the healthcare system in Palestine—especially in Gaza. He called upon all doctors to actively participate in PalMed’s mission of building a more equitable and humane health system.
Unprecedented Humanitarian Crisis Unfolds at Nasser Medical Complex by Israeli Occupation Forces
In a shocking display of disregard for human life, the Israeli occupation has transformed the Nasser Medical Complex into a military barracks, rendering it non-operational and exacerbating an already dire humanitarian crisis. Medical staff, dedicated to saving lives, have been subjected to reprehensible treatment-bound for extended periods, physically assaulted, beaten, and stripped of their clothing within the confines of the maternity building.
Adding to the gravity of the situation, Israeli forces have arrested a staggering 70 healthcare professionals at the hospital, leaving a mere 25 staff members struggling to cope with cases requiring intensive clinical care. The arrest of the intensive care doctors further compounds the tragedy, leaving critical cases without proper medical oversight. Disturbingly, dozens of bedridden and helpless patients, already undergoing treatment, were forcibly removed from the complex, endangering their lives and well-being.
The appalling conditions are exacerbated by the intentional cutting off of electricity to Nasser Medical Complex for three days, resulting in the interruption of oxygen supply. Tragically, seven patients have already succumbed to the consequences, and there are fears for the lives of dozens currently in critical care. Moreover, the suspension of generators has left the complex without water, food, and hygiene, creating oppressive and unsafe conditions for the three women, one of whom is a doctor, who gave birth within its walls. As sewage water floods emergency departments, the Israeli occupation refusal to coordinate repairs further compounds the suffering. The international community is urged to condemn these reprehensible actions, as we hold the Israeli occupation fully responsible for the lives of medical teams and patients at Nasser Medical Complex.
