PalMed – The Palestinian Doctors Association in Europe

With gratitude to Allah, the 30th specialised medical delegation of the PalMed Europe arrived at Al-Shifa Hospital in Gaza on Thursday, 20 November 2025.

The team consists of four physicians representing key medical specialties:

Maxillofacial Surgery
Anaesthesia and Intensive Care
Paediatrics

This mission is coordinated in partnership with the World Health Organization (WHO). Upon arrival, the delegation immediately commenced its medical duties, supporting local healthcare workers and providing essential care to the people of Gaza.

PalMed Europe remains committed to fulfilling its professional and humanitarian duty by continuing to send specialised medical teams, equipment, and vital medications to strengthen the resilience of Gaza’s dedicated medical staff.

The PalMed Europe 28th and 29th specialised medical delegations returend from the Gaza Strip, following 4 weeks of dedicated service across multiple hospitals.

28th Specialised Delegation

The 28th mission arrived in Gaza on 21 October 2025 and consisted of three surgeons:

Plastic and Burns Surgery
Ophthalmology
Ear, Nose and Throat Surgery

A fourth member of the delegation — a cardiac surgeon — was prevented by the occupation from entering Gaza.

The team worked across hospitals in both the northern and southern regions.
A multidisciplinary surgical team, including Gaza’s general surgeons and Dr. Othman Zeroual from Morocco (PalMed), successfully performed a total thyroidectomy on a patient with a significantly enlarged gland present for over 10 years. This procedure was the first of its kind since the beginning of the war and was highly commended by local medical staff.

In addition, Dr. Nawras Diab, a member of the PalMed surgical team, performed a complex emergency procedure to treat a cardiac tamponade resulting from a shrapnel injury to the right ventricle. The heart was freed, and the ventricular wound was successfully repaired.

29th Specialised Delegation

The 29th delegation reached Gaza on 28 and 30 October 2025, composed of:

Vascular Surgery
Anaesthesia and Intensive Care
Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology

Two members were denied entry, and only the internal medicine and gastroenterology specialist was permitted to enter Gaza. She remained at Nasser Medical Complex until 20 November 2025, offering vital medical support.

PalMed Europe continues to pursue its mission of sending specialised medical teams to strengthen Gaza’s healthcare system and alleviate the suffering of its people.

The Islamic University of Gaza has celebrated the graduation of the 14th cohort of medical students, a remarkable milestone that reflects determination, resilience, and the pursuit of life amid destruction and hardship. This graduation sends a powerful message to the world: Gaza will not surrender, and its people will continue building a future filled with knowledge and hope.

PalMed Europe and PalMed Academy are proud to have been among the earliest supporters of this achievement through the Gaza Educate Medics program, dedicated to strengthening medical education and empowering the next generation of doctors in Gaza.

The Palestinian Doctors Association in Europe (PalMed Europe) convened its 18th Advisory Conference in the city of Istanbul, Türkiye. The gathering brought together members, medical experts, and organizational leaders to discuss strategic priorities, strengthen humanitarian initiatives, and enhance medical support programs for Palestine.

The conference reaffirmed PalMed Europe’s commitment to advancing healthcare, supporting medical professionals, and expanding relief projects for the Palestinian people.

PalMed Europe, in cooperation with its Sweden branch and the humanitarian organisation Norwac, has successfully secured and delivered essential medicines and medical supplies required for the treatment of Guillain–Barré Syndrome (GBS) in Gaza.

Recent figures from the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) indicate a concerning rise in GBS cases — a rare but potentially life-threatening neurological condition in which the immune system attacks the peripheral nervous system.

As of 31 July 2025, 64 cases had been reported, including 27 children under the age of 15 — a dramatic increase compared to the pre-war average of five cases per year.

According to the World Health Organization, Gaza had no available stock of Intravenous Immunoglobulin (IVIG), the primary and life-saving treatment for GBS.
On 4 August, the Ministry of Health confirmed three deaths linked to the condition, including two children.

The Palestinian Doctors Association in Europe (PalMed Europe) has dispatched its 27th specialised medical delegation to the Gaza Strip. The team consisted of five physicians, coordinated in partnership with the World Health Organization (WHO). Four members were permitted by the occupation authorities to enter southern Gaza.

General Surgery
Thoracic Surgery
Emergency Medicine and Intensive Care
Anaesthesia

The delegation provided vital surgical and emergency care in hospitals across southern Gaza, with two members later managing to reach hospitals in the north. In addition to clinical work, the team delivered a specialised medical lecture to local physicians at the Nasser Medical Complex.

PalMed Europe remains committed to sending expert delegations to reinforce Gaza’s health sector and support the resilience of its medical teams.

The Palestinian Doctors Association in Europe (PalMed Europe) announces the safe return of its 25th medical delegation from the Gaza Strip, following a two-week humanitarian mission providing emergency medical care amid ongoing conflict.

The mission included seven doctors, though four were denied entry into Gaza due to access restrictions. Three physicians successfully reached Gaza, representing the fields of:

ENT (Ear, Nose & Throat Surgery)
Orthopaedic Surgery
Internal Medicine & Cardiology

These doctors worked in Nasser Medical Complex in Khan Younis, where they performed dozens of complex surgical procedures and delivered essential care to hundreds of patients, many of them critically injured.

This mission represents:

The 20th emergency medical delegation sent in collaboration with Rahma Worldwide
And, including five previous missions supported by the World Health Organization, brings the total number of PalMed-led delegations to 25 since the start of the recent escalation in Gaza

PalMed Europe reaffirms its commitment to expanding this critical program, aiming to send additional delegations in the coming weeks to help meet urgent health needs and relieve the suffering of civilians.

As the aggression on Gaza continues, more than two million displaced people remain trapped in catastrophic humanitarian conditions. Families struggle to survive in overcrowded shelters and tents, facing a growing threat from infectious and chronic diseases, amid a critical shortage of medical services and life-saving medications. The situation is further worsened by a severe lack of basic food supplies and infant formula.

In response, the PalMed Europe – Turkey Branch continues its vital support to the “Wafaa Al-Muhsineen” medical point in the Al-Mawasi area, south of Khan Younis. The medical point is regularly supplied with essential medicines and supplies as part of PalMed’s broader health support initiatives across Gaza.

We extend our sincere thanks and appreciation to the generous donors of the Turkey branch, whose contributions have kept this medical point running. We also thank our donors in other EU countries, whose support enables several other medical points throughout different regions of the Gaza Strip.

PalMed UK and PalMed Academy hosted an inspiring event at Nottingham Medical School titled “Stories of a Surgeon in Palestine“. The event featured Dr. Mohammad Hawari, a PalMed member and surgeon who visited Gaza during the ongoing conflict.

Dr. Hawari shared a powerful testimony about the dire medical situation in Gaza, highlighting the challenges faced by healthcare workers and patients amidst the devastation. Over 100 students and staff attended the event, attentively listening to his firsthand account of the humanitarian crisis and the efforts made by PalMed UK to support innocent civilians affected by the atrocities.

Dr. Hawari detailed PalMed’s tireless 14-month mission to provide aid and medical assistance to the people of Gaza, calling attention to the urgent need for global solidarity. He also introduced the GEM initiative, which aims to support medical students and strengthen Gaza’s healthcare system through education and innovation.
